40 over 40 Portrait Sessions
How many of us women are going to look back and realize we don’t have pictures we love of ourselves or even worse… just pictures. So many women are family photographers and historians and we are left out of our own history all too often. But you are some of the most important people in your family and should be represented and remembered beautifully.
I firmly believe that women should be photographed more often and celebrated. I created the 40 over 40 portrait session to offer 40 sessions to women in the prime of their lives. This session is perfect for women who just want a stunning portrait of themselves for their husbands, parents, or even her kids. Grab your sister, mother, or best friend and capture some of the most important relationships in your life.
These sessions come with a look consult (done over the phone or via zoom) to make sure you are confident about what you are wearing, an 11x14 or three 8x10 prints, or a 100.00 print credit to use towards a digital image or album. Make up is also an option on limited days and upon the availability of the make up artist... which who doesn’t love pampering? Sessions are $200.00 and for up to two women. These sessions will take place my Holton, KS photography studio.
We all want these special images and over the years I have never heard someone say they have ever regretted making this special portrait happen. Let’s have an amazing time celebrating ourselves (which you should certainly do) or celebrate with the women in our lives we can’t imagine being who we are without!

Essential Fashion and Style Tips for Women Over 40
Being over 40 is an amazing time and you’re in a great space in your life, which is why you should be dressing to look and feel good too. For your portrait session go simple or daring. Be unashamedly feminine with a gorgeous dress or rock a black turtleneck.
Perhaps you already have a style that you want to spice up or you’ve decided that you want to give your personal style a makeover – these tips will help.
Know your body type. This sounds like an age-old tip, but it still stands true. Your body has very likely changed over the years, so decide whether the same clothing cuts and lengths are still a good fit for you. If your body shape has changed, you can slowly start swapping out clothing items in your wardrobe – no need to do a complete overhaul all at once.
Relook at your accessory collection. Accessories can completely change an outfit and your fourth decade is a good time to invest in a few iconic pieces, including a handbag. Look for pieces that are good quality and will complement most of your outfits.
Keep the heels. Flats and sneakers are perfectly fine, but a woman in her 40s should still own some heels. If this means you need to switch to a few more pairs of sensible heels, do that, but now is not the time to retire your heels for good.
Solids trump prints. If you’re opting for a more elegant style in your 40s, go with solids over prints. This is not to say you shouldn’t ever wear prints, solids are just easier to style and accessorize.
Clavicles are in. Plunging v-necks were good at one point, but once you reach the 40+ mark, it’s better to focus on your clavicles instead. Off-the-shoulder and boat neck silhouettes are great for this.
Add some simple pieces to your closet too. Items like white t-shirts and a plain black dress are a must at any age, but even more so over the age of 40. These versatile items can be dressed up and down and are also easy to accessorize.
Try out some mid-length sleeves. Many women over the age of 40 are self-conscious about their arms. Mid-length sleeves take the focus off the upper arms and bring the focus to the slimmer forearm.
Go for white or darker wash denim. Everyone loves a bit of denim in their closets and if you don’t already own a pair, this is a great time to try out white jeans that fit you well. The lighter color is not only classic, but it creates a fresh, modern look too. And for those looking for a slimming effect, you can’t go wrong with darker wash denim.
And as you start redesigning your look with these tips in mind, make a point of always buying the best quality items you can afford. Quality pieces will last much longer and generally look better too.
